Residents who want to dine inside one of Sanford’s most historical locations visit The Old Jailhouse Kitchen & Spirits. The building dates back to 1890 and, although renovated over the years, has maintained its original brick facade, window jail bars, and archways to make for a stunning restaurant setting.

 

Right down the street is The Breezeway Restaurant & Bar, a delicious eatery with an open-air concept. This superb spot serves a fresh surf and turf menu with signature cocktails that diners can enjoy al fresco or in the quaint dining room. The restaurant also features live music and holiday-themed meals. 

Things To Do

Because of its year-round sunshine and warm temperatures, Sanford residents have a plethora of outdoor activities at their fingertips. One of the most popular outdoor attractions are the Sanford Marketplace at Magnolia.

 

To fully enjoy the picturesque views of the city, locals stroll the Sanford Riverwalk, a walking path along the shores of Lake Monroe. This five-mile path received the International Making Cities Livable award in 2009 and is perfect for a long walk or bike ride, both day and night. Find more outdoor adventures at the Black Bear Wilderness Area. This beautiful location is home to 1,600 acres of wetland and floodplain habitats that connect the St. Johns and Wekiva Rivers to the Ocala National Forest. Hikers can explore the trails and observe wildlife in their natural habitats. 

 

For a relaxing day on the green, locals visit the Mayfair Country Club. This down to earth venue boasts a manicured 18-hole course, a pro shop, and practice facilities. Challenge your friends to a round on the 72-par course, take it easy at the driving range, or practice your short game on the putting green.
